Master Data Management Use Case

Challenge

A Sypherlink client needed to determine where all of their customer data was located and stored within the enterprise. This client had long suffered from duplicate customer data residing in multiple locations and wanted to consolidate it. This would normally be a daunting task, as the client had dozens of databases with many thousands of tables and columns to analyze. Performing this project manually, using traditional SQL query tools, would have been an untenable, time-consuming and error-prone task.

Solution

Sypherlink Harvester was used to reverse engineer all of the known data sources. Harvester’s data profiling and automated heuristic matching determined where all of the customer data was located. The most consistent sources for their customer data was identified.

Benefits

The client now knows where their customer data resides and has begun a solid master data management initiative and strategy. In addition, future development efforts are able to use this information to ensure projects can be completed within time and budget and with greater quality and accuracy.
