Information Integration Use Case

Challenge

A Sypherlink government client needed to share data across multiple agencies within a state jurisdiction. Data sharing initiatives had been overwhelming in the past, and previous efforts had failed. Many of these agencies utilized different vendors and database systems to store their data. As a result, data was stored in different formats and manually mapping it to a state-wide data model would be an incredibly difficult and lengthy process.

Solution

Sypherlink Harvester was used to reverse engineer all of the agency data sources and determine where data required for the state-wide hub was stored. This information was then used to map each of the agency’s data to the state-wide target data model. Harvester Integrator then used this mapping information to move the data from each state agency to the central database hub, facilitating data sharing between these agencies in a timely manner.

Benefits

Data is now effectively shared among various state agencies, resulting in better crime tracking and public safety. Mappings and transformation metadata are reusable by vendor, so additional agencies may join the data sharing effort with lower costs and implementation timeframes.
