Sypherlink Adds Cloud-Ready Data Integration Component to Core Software Suite
Sypherlink Harvester 6 Offers Low-Cost, High-Value Data Integration for Faster Scalability, Reduced Infrastructure Costs

DUBLIN, Ohio, December 1, 2009Sypherlink, Inc., a leading data-integration-software and NIEM compliance provider, today announced significant enhancements to its core Harvester™ software application. Available today, Version 6 offers a new component, Harvester Integrator, to provide data movement capabilities, including extracting, transforming and loading (ETL) data into target applications. This new component is available in a cloud-ready platform, providing customers a low-cost, high value solution for accelerating their data integration projects while reducing project costs and related risk.

“Version 6 takes Harvester to a new level,” said Sypherlink CEO, James Paat, “and continues to build on our goal of providing customers a highly valuable and comprehensive suite for reducing the time, effort and cost associated with every data integration and conversion effort.”

“Unlike other data management tools focused narrowly on discovery, profiling or ETL functions, Harvester takes a holistic approach and was specifically designed to facilitate, accelerate and improve the most critical tasks across the entire data integration and conversion process.” said Paat.

“Harvester 6 leverages a patented heuristics-matching technology and provides a comprehensive application suite for managing the critical discovery, mapping, ETL design and ETL tasks,” Paat continued. “In addition, Harvester’s unique Knowledge Hub allows data analysts and ETL developers to capture, share and transfer knowledge of systems and mappings to be further leveraged in future efforts.”

“Harvester Integrator, offered as an add-on component to Harvester 6, is a low-cost data integration tool that offers customers a valuable alternative to the existing tools that may not be readily available to them,” said Paat. “It’s the answer our customers – many of whom are in the underserved public sector – have been asking for.”

According to Paat, Harvester Integrator leverages open source technology to move data that has been discovered and mapped for integration by Harvester. “We built Harvester Integrator around open source tools and customized it to the specific data conversion process required by many public sector agencies that are increasingly required to share their data,” he said.

Paat continued to say that Harvester version 6 is “cloud-ready” and can be deployed on a distributed computing platform using multi-server, multi-threaded resources to distribute the processing required to complete a job or set of data transformations.

“This makes it possible to move large quantities of data without a large, continuous infrastructure investment and enables organizations to quickly scale up their data integration projects,” he continued. “For example, a state agency recently leveraged Harvester Integrator to move more than 80 gigabytes of raw source data, over 500 million rows, in just over four hours.”

Harvester 6 offers the following new functionality:

  • Improved Collaboration – Harvester’s metadata repository support for Oracle and SQL Server gives users the ability to better support collaboration on projects involving enterprise databases
  • Improved User Interface / Mapping Tools – Including:
    • Tagging functionality for quickly visualizing how systems relate; segmenting data models by phase or by team member;
    • Generate Profile Run functionality provides mappers/analysts exactly the right data needed to understand the source system data; and
  • Relationship Investigator functionality for one-click, “live” analysis against the entire data source (vs. the analysis against sample data provided in Harvester’s automated run) to search matching fields;

  • Improved Pre-ETL Functionality – New “Data Flow Designer” capabilities for improved configuration with packaged ETL tools (i.e. Informatica, Pentaho).

  • New Reporting Options – New canned reports are now available to assist with the pre-ETL process flow, including schema reports, table summary reports, and source mapping reports.

    Sypherlink Harvester is currently used by dozens of public and private sector agencies, including local, state, and federal agencies involved in data sharing programs. Harvester technology is also built into Sypherlink’s acclaimed NIE Gateway solution which provides the technology and interfaces required for justice data sharing – as well as conformance to the National Information Exchange Model standard.
